Just a post regarding the past post entitled "good friday". Rachel has done the research regarding the sermon titled "It's Friday But, Sundays Comin'" and has discovered that the original pastor who wrote & delivered the sermon was Marshall L. Shepard, Sr., pastor of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church in West Philadelphia. Sadly, everything on the internet credits Dr. Anthony Campolo who did write a book on the sermon, oddly enough, gaining public credit for the sermon with no known declaration that this is someone else's work.
Below is the email response from Tony Campolo's assistant:

When I "Googled" the topic, I found some of this, and then I made a call and
got the rest of it! "Tony Campolo preaches a sermon taken from an elderly black pastor, the
late Marshall L. Shepard, Sr., pastor of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church in West
Philadelphia. "It's Friday, but Sunday's Comin'" is the title of the sermon."

While it may be dis-heartening to find out Dr. Campolo did not actually preach the original "It's Friday, but Sunday is coming!" he has made it famous.
Dr. Campolo in all of the times I have seen him and has mentioned this story, always mentions that he was in a preach-off where preachers get together and preach and preach kind of trying to to out preach each other.
He preached first and was good. as he says, "Real Good!" But after him came the pastor who you have mentioned and started yelling... "it's Friday, but sunday is coming!"
The congregation went nuts!
Again tony has always given credit - not by name but has always mentioned that not he but another person actually preaching that sermon.
The internet as you hopefully know can and will spin things in what ever way possible. A lot of this comes from poor fact checking or no fact checking.
so thank you for checking on the facts and getting the pastors name out there.
